As part of an interview in connection with PBSs upcoming airings of “Macbeth” and “Hamlet” in April, Sir Patrick Stewart tells FRONTLINEs Digital Nation that he can’t condense life into a 140 character Tweet, and explains why he is afraid to start “gaming.
FRONTLINE “Digital Nation” is a multiplatform project exploring what it means to be human in a 21st-century digital world. Watch the TV documentary now online at http://www.pbs.org/frontline/digitalnation/
In a unique collaboration with the public that began on the “Digital Nation” Web site, award-winning producer Rachel Dretzin and commentator Douglas Rushkoff probe how digital technology is changing nearly every aspect of modern culture, from the ways we think and learn to the ways in which we socialize, work and even conduct war. Is it possible to multitask well? Is too much digital media bad for young brains? Should we fight wars by remote control? What are the real-world effects of immersion in virtual worlds? Watch online beginning and share your story of life in the digital age at http://www.pbs.org/frontline/digitalnation/ .
FRONTLINE is produced by WGBH Boston and is broadcast nationwide on PBS. Funding for FRONTLINE is provided through the support of PBS viewers. Major funding for FRONTLINE is provided by The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation. Additional funding is provided by the Park Foundation. “Digital Nation” is brought to you by the Verizon Foundation.

Hes afraid that …
Hes afraid that life will imitate art! Lest we forget the classic TNG episode The Game where the whole crew (including Captain Picard) get addicted to a video game that makes them passive to the game creators plans to take over the enterprise! The game like hooked into your brain or something, or at least you head visor, and it was IN 3D!

I wonder if he plays MW2?

The reason I think …
The reason I think on why he is not into gaming is because, maybe, we just don’t want to be so IN to it.
I mean, based on the interview, he has only high praise for today’s technology.
BUT OH MAN. I am totally digging Patrick Stewart screaming at his head set while playing L4D or COD.
TASTE THY HATCHET YOU VILE BEAST! OH! BLAST! GET THIS ABOMINATION OFF ME!
OMG That server party will be epic.

So much epic win …
So much epic win what he’s saying, its scary how much I agree with him. It seems funny to me though, he’s praising all this technology… but it’s nothing compared to the Enterprise ^^.

Well…he rather …
Well…he rather clearly states ‘none’. He DOESN’T play. Presumably, the games he owns are ones he have done voice-work on, such as Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, and various Star Trek games.

Why can’t this man …
Why can’t this man be my father?
Not only is he able to navigate an advanced cellphone, but he can compile emails, do Internet searches for what he wants…even research things he needs to and is actually WILLING to embrace technology at his age. Absolutely fantastic. Bravo Sir Patrick!

I agree with Mr. …
I agree with Mr. Stewart about the gaming, I feel the same way. I’m not dissing the games themselves, or the players, but if I get started I find I won’t have time for anything else. It’s just too easy to lose track of time when you’re gaming.
Technology is a wonderful thing and I’m all for it, but like everything else, I view it as a part of the overall experience of being human and being alive.

i NEED to know what …
i NEED to know what games he plays.
February 25th, 2010 at 9:23 pm
well, even though i …
well, even though i agree on the twitter part and the internet part, i kinda disagree about the gaming part. so yes, gaming is kinda addictive but yet i dont see where the problem is, i mean games can tell a story much better than movies
beside, you can read a book for 4 hours, you can see a movie for an hour n a half, and you could play the same game for nearly 100 hours so my point is: i dont think he should be “affraid” of games maybe he should try play one or 2 of them and see what its like

What a person! Life …
What a person! Life, in my opinion, too, indeed, cannot be reduced to 140 characters. Stuff’s just to complicated and fraked up for that.
